Hello Trail Mixers!
I was home alone in San Francisco this past weekend for the first time in probably five months and I gotta say… it was great! On Saturday, I slept in until 10:00 am, cleaned my apartment, got dressed, walked to Booksmith in the Haight, worked from Flywheel on Stanyan, got a mochi ice cream from Whole Foods, walked home, went for a run, went to dinner at Wildseed, went home, and read a book until 1 am! Ideal day tbh!
Today I have a few micro obsessions and M&Ms to share.
Micro obsessions
Physical books! I started reading books again. Though I’m allergic to fiction and especially dislike anything gaming related, I recently picked up Tomorrow and Tomorrow and Tomorrow and I don’t hate it so far. I also recently finished Trick Mirror, American Prison, and David Sedaris’ Calypso. And by finished I mean that I finished reading the book, not that I read every word until the last page
My new neon yellow-green hard cover XL Moleskine notebook
The blue colored Papermate Flair pen (the only good pen!)
Nerds Rope (pink flavor)
The RH cloud couch
Taking a photo of every Rivian I see to convince Rory that we need one
AirPods Max (unfortunately they are good)
Taking taxis instead of Ubers from the airport (any airport) to my destination (faster + cheaper!)
The MoMa Design Store’s website
[This would traditionally go in the M&Ms section but I can’t get it out of my head so it’s migrating up to a micro obsession.] Have you seen photographer Jeff Mermelstein’s photo series on people in NYC’s text messages? My god. It’s so good, if you can get beyond the invasion of privacy (which I can). I can’t stop thinking about it. I want more. (Here it is in TikTok form).
Been a while since I cancelled Rory! Luckily he ate 12 eggo waffles before running the Boston Marathon which is disgusting so he is cancelled.
I’m seeking a recommendation for a new water bottle that’s not a Nalgene and not a huge insulated monster bottle. Something compact but also bigger than 8 oz. DM w/ leads.
I’m going to Paris pretty soon. Never been! If you have any recs please let me know. Bonus points for anything accessible to someone in a wheelchair!
I liked this deep dive into “sustainable” textiles and fake leather by Amanda Mull in The Atlantic.
Apparently Amanda Mull is the only Atlantic writer I can tolerate because I also loved this piece by her on YETI coolers.
The viral NYT “Liz” Holmes piece of course.
“I Really Didn’t Want to Go [On the Goop Cruise]” by Lauren Oyler about going… on the Goop Cruise. So wild. Goop is insane.
I recently stayed at The Standard, High Line in New York and wowowow it lived up to the hype! 10/10 recommend.
This dog I saw last week on the N Judah:
Are You Thunder or Lightning? by Sophie Haigney in The Paris Review.
Loved this license plate:
Happy Tuesday!
Bye <3
